64 Spirituality Studies 11-1 Spring 2025 3.2 Simple Linear Regression Analysis A simple multivariate linear regression analysis is performed, where the dependent variable is the purpose of life, and the independent variables are religiosity, positive self-esteem, and negative self-esteem. The general results of the regression analysis provide statistically significant data (R=.618, R-squared=.381, F=197.037, p=.001). Table 2 Simple Linear Regression Analysis Model B Desv. Error Beta t Sig. (Constant) 4.068 .262 15.525 <.001 Religiosity .078 .023 .089 3.478 <.001 Positive Self-Esteem .682 .050 .415 13.659 <.001 Negative Self-Esteem -.518 .058 -.269 −8.855 <.001 Note: Dependent variable Life Purpose. The findings indicate that the three variables (religiosity, positive self-esteem, and negative self-esteem) have a statistically significant influence on the purpose of life. We found the highest positive self-esteem (β=.682, p=.001), followed by religiosity (β=.078, p=.001). In the opposite extreme, with a negative impact, negative self-esteem stands out (β=-.518, p=.001). 3.3 Mediation Analysis with Two Mediating Variables In the simple mediation analysis, we used model 6, with a 95% confidence interval and 10000 bootstrapping. In this case, a mediation analysis was carried out between religiosity and purpose of life, where two mediator variables are established (mediator 1=positive self-esteem and mediator 2=negative self-esteem; see Figure 1). Table 3 shows the results of the mediation models; therefore, in the first model, religiosity is a positive and statistically significant predictor of positive self-esteem. In the second model, the relationship between religiosity and negative self-esteem is not statistically significant, and the relationship between the two mediating variables (positive self-esteem and negative self-esteem) is also negative and statistically significant. In the third model, corresponding to the total effect of religiosity on life purpose, the impact is statistically significant. Finally, the fourth model shows that the three variables have a statistically significant impact on the purpose of life, with a lower impact of religiosity and a negative sign in the relationship between negative self-esteem and purpose of life.
